Privacy Policy

This policy describes what personal data is collected by the PlaneGuesser application and website (“the app”), why, and what your rights are. By using the app, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Data Controller

The controller of the data is the publisher of PlaneGuesser. For any question regarding your data, you can write to PlaneGuesser@gmail.com.

2. Data We Collect

• Account: when you sign in via Google, Apple, Game Center (iOS), Google Play Games (Android) or email, we receive a unique account identifier, your email address (when provided) and, where applicable, the associated display name.
• Game profile: your nickname (“spotter”), your avatar, your total score, your badges, your lives and your progress statistics.
• Gameplay data (telemetry): for each answer, we record the photo identifier, the difficulty, the response time and whether the answer is correct. This data is used to identify photos that are too easy or too hard and to improve the game.
• Leaderboard scores: your nickname, your avatar and your score may be saved to the public leaderboard (see section 5).
• Technical data: data strictly necessary for operation (local session storage, sign-in state).
• Voluntary feedback: if you use the “Send feedback / report a bug” button, the information you enter (your message and, if you provide them, your nickname, your email and your device model) is sent via a Google Forms form.

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or any sensitive data.

3. Purposes and Legal Bases

• Providing the service (creating an account, saving your progress, playing duels) — legal basis: performance of the contract / provision of the requested service.
• Public leaderboard — legal basis: your use of the game and our legitimate interest in offering competition between players.
• Improving the game (analyzing photo difficulty) — legal basis: legitimate interest.

4. Hosting and Sub-processors

The app relies on Firebase (provided by Google), which acts as host and sub-processor: Firebase Authentication (sign-in), Cloud Firestore (database), Cloud Functions and Firebase Hosting. Game data is stored in a database located in the europe-west1 region (Belgium, European Union). Google may process certain data in accordance with its own terms and with standard contractual clauses for any transfers. The optional feedback form uses Google Forms (also provided by Google).

The web version additionally uses Firebase App Check with reCAPTCHA v3 (Google) to verify that requests genuinely come from the app rather than from an automated script. This check is invisible — there is no puzzle to solve. For that purpose reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information (device and browser data, page interactions) and sends it to Google for analysis; Google states that this data is not used for personalised advertising. 5. Data Made Public

The leaderboard is public: your nickname, your avatar and your score are visible to other players. Choose a nickname that does not personally identify you if you wish to remain anonymous. Your email address is never displayed publicly. If you join a private league (“Friends”), your nickname, your avatar and your score are visible to the other members of that league.

6. Advertising

As of today, the app displays no advertising and uses no advertising trackers. If ads (e.g. Google AdMob) are added in the future, this policy will be updated and, for users in the European Union, appropriate consent will be requested beforehand.

7. Data Retention

• Profile and account data is kept as long as your account is active.
• Temporary technical data from duel mode (matchmaking queue, rooms) is deleted automatically and regularly.
• Gameplay (telemetry) data is kept for at most 3 months, then deleted automatically.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

• Right of access to your data;
• Right to rectification;
• Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”);
• Right to restriction of and objection to processing;
• Right to data portability.

You can delete your account and all your data at any time, directly from the app's settings. To exercise your other rights, write to planeguesser@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL — www.cnil.fr).

9. Security

Data is transmitted in encrypted form (HTTPS) and database access is restricted by Firestore security rules. As no system is infallible, we cannot, however, guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

The app is not intended for children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data about children below that age.

11. Local Storage

The app uses your browser's or device's local storage (localStorage / IndexedDB) only to maintain your sign-in session and your preferences. No advertising cookies are used.

12. Changes

This policy may be updated. In the event of a significant change, the “last updated” date above will be modified.
